Boston Brilliance Festival of Light 2025: Illuminating Culture, Creativity, and Community

As Freelance Event Producer for Boston Brilliance Festival of Light 2025, I worked closely with Ross Ashton of The Projection Studio to produce and deliver this landmark event, leading on logistical planning and serving as Event Manager across both live event nights. Held on 14–15 February, the festival transformed Boston Town Centre into an illuminated cultural experience, celebrating the town’s heritage through large-scale projection, live performance, and community engagement.

Creative Partnerships & Production

The event was a collaborative success between Boston College, The Projection Studio, and the South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, with funding support from Arts Council England and sponsorship from Greenyard Frozen, Ruddocks, and Chattertons.

Eight of Boston’s historic landmarks were reimagined through projection mapping and creative light installations, including Cammacks, Waterstones, Pescod Hall, St Botolph’s Church, The Assembly Rooms, Sam Newsom Centre, Boston Guildhall, and Fydell House.

Internationally renowned artists brought their work to Boston’s streets:

  • Ross Ashton & Karen Monid (UK) – Large-scale projection specialists who have delivered for the Queen’s Jubilee and global festivals.

  • Noémi Prud’homme (France) – Created a medieval manuscript-inspired projection at Pescod Hall.

  • Pep Palau (Spain) – Merged poetry and projection in The Kraken at The Assembly Rooms.

  • Video Architects (Lithuania) – Presented Diptych, an exploration of light and shadow.

  • Alex Birch (UK) – Transformed St Botolph’s Bridge into an animated ‘Bridge of Light’.

Community Engagement & Educational Impact

The festival engaged a wide cross-section of the local community, with contributions from local schools and Boston College. Students from across multiple departments supported the event through creative content, stewarding, catering, media capture, and customer engagement, gaining valuable experience in real-world event delivery.

Fydell House offered historical tours, Boston Guildhall hosted an immersive VR Mayflower experience, and families enjoyed hands-on arts and crafts activities. The festival also featured live music, street theatre, and installations that activated the town centre with energy and imagination.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, I:

  • Facilitated all logistical planning, including scheduling, site coordination, and delivery infrastructure across multiple town centre locations
  • Assisted on producing detailed event documentation, risk assessments, and operational plans

  • Managed on-the-ground delivery during the live event, overseeing event flow, troubleshooting, and health & safety

  • Coordinated technical needs and access for various partners and local creatives

  • Supported audience engagement through wayfinding, accessibility planning, and public safety measure

It was a privilege to be part of the inaugural Boston Brilliance Festival of Light—an event that brought together world-class creativity, local talent, and community spirit in such a powerful way. As the first festival of its kind in the UK, it was exciting to see how projection mapping and light installations could transform the town’s historic architecture and public spaces. I’m proud to have contributed to such a landmark moment for Boston, and I look forward to supporting future editions as this vibrant new tradition continues to grow.
